Dear Friends,
As we reflect on this past year, I am proud of the many accomplishments of the Labette Health Foundation and very grateful to each of you for your support. As the new president of the board, I am committed to continuing the great work of the board and the many programs, services and activities made possible through your generous donations.
In 2018, the foundation awarded $24,050 in scholarships to 24 students seeking a medical-related career, bringing our total in scholarship donations to $282,200 over the past few years. We also purchased some equipment, including a new screening unit to replace a 14-year-old machine for our obstetrics department, an x-ray machine for the new clinic in Chanute, seven endoscopes for the operating room, a specialized microscope for neurosurgeries and three recliners for the cancer center in Independence. See "Taking Off, Reaching Out" for more of our donations.
It isn't just the big-ticket items that the foundation helps provide, but all purchases, big and small. We recently donated a really big "transportation" item to our general surgery floor—the new pediatric "Healing Flyer" that takes children to surgery, to the front door when they are discharged and even for a short ride, with Mom or Dad in tow, to relieve boredom during an extended stay.
Your gifts are of the utmost importance and offer immediate resources directed to current needs and opportunities. Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Robert Gibbs, MD, President
