Labette Health Recognized as High Performing Hospital

Wednesday, September 13, 2017

PARSONS, KANSAS – Labette Health has been recognized as a “High Performing Hospital for Knee Replacement” by U.S. News and World Report.

US News and World Report independently and objectively evaluates data for 4,658 community hospitals. In 2017-18, 152 hospitals were ranked placing Labette Health in the top 3% of hospitals in the United States. Labette Health is the only hospital in southeast Kansas to receive this coveted honor. “We work day-in and day-out to provide the highest quality of care. We haven’t been perfect, but I think this award provides some level of assurance that we are doing pretty good,” said Dr. Brad Meister, Orthopedic Surgeon. “It has been an honor and a privilege to care for the residents of southeast Kansas and the surrounding four-state area.”

US News and World Report began publishing hospital rankings in 1990 to identify the best medical centers in various specialties for the most difficult patients. More than one factor can be in play for particular patients. Originally named “America’s Best Hospitals,” the specialty rankings have appeared annually since 1990, and their focus on identifying hospitals that excel in treating the most difficult patients has not changed.

“This honor is only possible through the hard work of the physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, therapists, clinical staff, and non-clinical support staff,” said Brian Williams, President & CEO. “A hospital is a building and only as good as its team. We are proud of the life’s work and the positive difference that our entire team has made in the lives of so many.”

The Best Hospitals specialty rankings assess hospital performance in 16 specialties from Cancer to Urology. In 12 specialties, ranking is determined by an extensive data-driven analysis that combines measures of performance in three primary dimensions of healthcare: structure, process, and outcomes. Ranking in the other four specialties relies on hospital reputation as determined by physician surveys.

“The team that our CEO talks about looks to the doctors for leadership and it’s a responsibility I take very seriously,” said Dr. Kevin Mosier, Orthopedic Surgeon. “It requires continued learning and networking with esteemed colleagues from throughout the world. For me, it’s all about constantly striving to be the very best surgeon and doctor I can be for my patients. Knowing that we can constantly improve and do things better is why we have been recognized by U.S. News and World Report.”

Labette Health is also nationally ranked, by CareChex, in the top 10 percent for patient safety in orthopedic care, major orthopedic surgery and joint replacement.

These awards have only been made possible through the incredible efforts of our healthcare team,” said Dr. Meister. “I thank Dr. Dillon for getting us started down this path of excellence in joint replacement and am extremely honored to be a part of what has evolved here at Labette Health. We will continue to give our very best effort for all who choose Labette Health for their orthopedic care.”
