Description:

The Nurse Director of Medical/Surgical Services is responsible for clinical and administrative leadership across the 2N Medical and 3N Surgical units at Labette Health. This position provides oversight for the Joint Camp Program The Nurse Director ensures quality patient care, optimal staffing, fiscal responsibility, and regulatory compliance, while cultivating a positive, team-focused culture that supports patient safety and nurse development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct operations of the 2N Medical, 3N Surgical, Joint Camp
  • Ensure compliance with standards set by CMS, ACHC ,CARF, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinical staff, and leadership to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Lead staffing, scheduling, hiring, orientation, and staff flexing activities.
  • Oversee training and competency programs for new nurses, including clinical coaching and preceptor development.
  • Support professional development and mentorship of nursing staff and emerging leaders.
  • Manage departmental budgets and monitor financial performance.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary committees such as Clinical Council, Quality Council, Utilization Review, P&T, Infection Control, and the Hospital Leadership Team.
  • Promote interdepartmental collaboration and maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Foster a positive patient experience by championing service standards and timely responsiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control practices and patient safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Active Registered Nurse license in the State of Kansas (required)
  • BSN required or in progress; or related leadership education preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience; leadership or charge nurse experience preferred
  • Specialty certification (e.g., Med-Surg, Orthopedic) preferred
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Working knowledge of staffing models, patient throughput, quality improvement, and regulatory standards
