Position Summary

The Insurance Biller will be responsible for accurately billing patients and third-party payers, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and resolving any billing discrepancies. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a thorough understanding of medical billing processes. Will also have the ability to lead and train the insurance team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Generate and submit accurate claims to insurance companies and other third-party payers.
  • Review patient bills for accuracy and completeness, ensuring all necessary information is obtained.
  • Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe.
  • Utilize electronic billing software and systems to prepare and process claims.
  • Resolve billing issues and inquiries from patients, insurance companies, and internal departments.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits eligibility for patients.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and billing guidelines.
  • Monitor delinquent accounts and initiate collections procedures as necessary.
  • Provide support and guidance to patients regarding billing issues and payment options.
  • Stay updated on changes in healthcare regulations, insurance guidelines, and billing procedures.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or certification in Medical Billing and Coding preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in hospital billing or a related healthcare billing role.
  • Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CPB) preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Hospital Biller or Medical Biller in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and diagnosis coding (ICD-10).
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) and healthcare billing software (e.g., CPSI, Meditech).
  • Strong understanding of insurance procedures and medical billing compliance.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in billing and coding.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
