Position Summary:

The Risk Manager / Infection Control RN is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating hospital-wide risk management and infection prevention programs as delegated by the Board of Trustees. This role promotes patient safety, ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, and provides leadership in identifying and mitigating potential risks. The position integrates clinical expertise with regulatory knowledge to reduce liability exposure, improve outcomes, and ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Risk Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the hospital’s risk management program, policies, and procedure in accordance with Kansas Risk Management statutes and regulations.
  • The Director of Risk Management shall investigate the incident and/or assign to the
  • appropriate department director or designee to investigate the incident, (other than those
  • involving a Medical Staff Member) per the Labette Health Risk Management Program.
  • Review and investigate patient safety events, incident reports, and claims; lead root cause analysis and support action plans.
  • Serve as a resource to staff and leadership regarding regulatory compliance, risk prevention strategies, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Monitor trends in incident reporting and collaborate with leadership to implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain records of adverse events, complaints, and near misses, ensuring timely reporting to regulatory agencies as required and according to the Labette Health Complaints and Grievance Policy.
  • Coordinates Peer Review process consistent with applicable laws, regulations and bylaws.
  • Meets KDHE reporting requirements and submits the Risk Management Plan to KDHE for annual approval.
  • Act as a liaison with legal counsel, insurers, and external agencies regarding risk and liability issues.

Infection Control

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate the hospital-wide infection prevention and control program.
  • Conduct surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), outbreaks, and compliance with evidence-based guidelines.
  • Provide education and training to staff regarding infection prevention practices, standard precautions, and isolation protocols.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure compliance with CDC, OSHA, CMS, ACHC, KDHE, and other regulatory standards.
  • Lead investigations of infection control breaches and recommend corrective actions.
  • Coordinate the hospital’s response to infectious disease threats, including emerging pathogens and outbreaks.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Diploma in Nursing, Associate’s Degree (ADN) Required, BSN preferred.
  • Licensed RN in Kansas
  • 3-5 years clinical nursing experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards
