Our Spine Center of Excellence is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse to join our team.
Position Summary
The Neurosurgery Clinic & Pain Management Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients with neurological disorders and those requiring pain management services. This role supports providers in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care through clinical assessment, care coordination, education, and procedure assistance. The nurse serves as a critical liaison between patients, providers, and interdisciplinary team members, ensuring seamless care delivery from consultation through follow-up.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Assist providers with patient evaluations, examinations, and minor procedures.
- Administer injections and medications as directed.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, surgical preparation, postoperative care, and pain management strategies.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions during procedures and treatments.
Care Coordination
- Facilitate scheduling of diagnostic tests, surgeries, follow-up appointments, and pain management procedures.
- Coordinate pre- and post-surgical care instructions, ensuring patients understand discharge and recovery expectations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including neurosurgeons, anesthesia, physical therapists, and case managers.
Pain Management Support
- Assist in administering and monitoring pain management therapies, including nerve blocks, epidural injections, and medication management.
- Provide education on safe medication use, alternative therapies, and lifestyle modifications.
- Monitor effectiveness of treatment plans and escalate concerns to providers.
Administrative & Compliance Duties
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Coordinate all necessary clinical resources including but not limited to intra-operative monitoring, biologics, spine implants, and surgical suites.
- Obtain prior authorizations for clinical care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff education activities.
- Maintain required certifications and participate in continuing education.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice, required.
- BSN preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in neurosurgery, pain management, or a related specialty.
- Current BLS certification
- Strong knowledge of neurological conditions, pain management protocols, and perioperative nursing care.
- Excellent critical thinking, patient education, and communication skills.
