Labette Health is pleased to welcome Melissa McIntosh, MD, to its medical staff. Melissa is board-certified specializing in internal medicine and pediatrics. Dr. McIntosh, a native from Caney, KS, received her medical degree from University of Kansas and completed her residency at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Tulsa, OK.

"It's exciting to return to practice in southeast Kansas. I'm looking forward to partnering with Labette Health and providing high-quality patient care in our community," said Dr. McIntosh.

Dr. McIntosh will begin seeing patients March 20, 2017. Labette Health has leased a modular medical clinic that will be located onsite at the new Independence Healthcare Center on Peter Pan Road. Joining Dr. McIntosh at the temporary unit will be Dr. Ben Leger, internal medicine/pediatrics, who is currently seeing patients at the Labette Health Specialty Clinic in Independence.

"We are much honored that a fifth generation southeast Kansan is returning to join our team and provide exceptional healthcare to the community of Independence. We thank you for your support, which has been overwhelming and necessitated us adding this temporary clinic," said Brian Williams, President and CEO of Labette Health.

The new Independence Healthcare Center is expected to open by July 2017. The new center will include a rural health clinic staffed by highly-trained physician specialists, primary care physicians and mid-level providers. Additionally, it is designed to deliver time-critical emergency care to southeast Kansans and will include a trauma room, advanced imaging, laboratory services, and helicopter accessibility.

Labette Health providers that are currently providing care in Independence are Dr. Caitlyn Nguyen, family practice/OB; Dr. Ben Leger, internal medicine/pediatrics; Dr. Michael Bolt, general surgery; Dr. V.S. Pai, urology; Stephanie M. Thompson, APRN-WHNP, OB-GYN; Chelsea Bradfield, APRN-C, family practice; Dawn McCaffery, APRN-C, family practice; and Darin Hamlin, APRN-C, family practice.
