SUMMARY

Education: A professional Registered Nurse with in-depth scientific knowledge, technical expertise, skill and competency that serves as a business partner and resource in the healthcare setting and supports nurse and other clinical development and training initiatives. This position participates in the development of nursing, clinical and advanced practice education and programs that facilitate forward movement in healthcare. Acts as a change agent by suggesting new or innovative approaches based on evidence-based nursing practices that result in improvements in quality outcomes and patient safety. Organizes new employee orientation on unit by scheduling preceptors and times, intermittent follow-up, and providing oversight of orientation and competency of unit staff. Implements alternative and varied teaching strategies to meet learner needs.

Risk: Claims administration and Event Reporting. Coordinates and directs legal counsel and other personnel involved in claims management. Coordinates the facility's risk management activities consistent with Kansas Risk Management statues and regulations, which include reviewing claims against the facility, administering the risk management program on a day-to-day basis, analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management educational programs and complying with OSHA, accrediting bodies and other regulatory agencies with the objective of controlling and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility. Responsible for proposing risk management policies and procedures or organizational changes and making recommendation to the Quality Improvement Director. Coordinates the peer review process consistent with all applicable laws, regulations standards and internal bylaws. Meets the KDHE reporting requirements and submits the Risk Management Plan to KDHE for annual approval as part of the hospital licensing requirement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field preferred or in progress of Masters Degree.
  • Hospital experience required as an RN in ICU, ED, or Medical Surgical. Five (5) years in other clinical setting will be considered.
  • Current valid license as a Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Provider in Kansas
  • BLS required. Must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Previous experience in nursing education, precepting or mentoring nursing staff (e.g. RN, LPN, PCT's) preferred.
  • Previous knowledge Nurse Practice Act, federal, state and local requirements
  • Working knowledge of the use of establishing clinical and preceptorship models in the development of clinical education programs
  • Part of the DSME team, leads the clinical nursing portion of the program and education
