Labette Health Trustees Accept
CEO William Mahoney's Resignation
PARSONS, Kan., Dec. 3, 2009 – Labette Health’s Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of the hospital’s President and Chief Executive Officer, William Mahoney, during their regular monthly meeting this morning.
In making the announcement, Board Chairman Vince Schibi said, “William Mahoney has given his heart and soul to Labette Health. He has been true to his word, and he has set new standards of excellence during his time here. The Board reluctantly accepts his resignation, and wishes him and his family well. We just pray that when we hire a new CEO, we are able to bring in someone with as much talent and vision as William Mahoney.”
Schibi said that a search for a replacement would begin immediately, with a search committee to be appointed in the near future. He said he planned to meet with Mahoney and Executive Compensation Committee members Kelly Rector and Marna George early next week to map out a plan. Mahoney will assist with the search on an ex officio basis.
“He has some great ideas, so we want to take advantage of them,” Schibi said.
Mahoney, who has accepted a position as Chief Executive Officer of Skaggs Regional Medical Center in Branson, Mo., will remain at Labette Health until January 7. During the search for a new CEO, Chief Financial Officer Tom Macaronas, who has been at Labette Health for 11 years, will serve as interim CEO.
“I have been so blessed to be at Labette Health. It has been a privilege to work with the hospital’s Board of Trustees,” Mahoney said. “I have pondered and pondered over this, and in the end, it seemed that this was just the right time to make a move. The hospital is healthy and moving in a great direction.”
“My family has been so blessed because of your hard work and dedication,” Mahoney told the hospital’s department directors after the announcement. “Our community is better because of you, and I firmly believe that lives have been saved. I know that the Board of Trustees and the entire medical staff are dedicated to fulfilling the mission of Labette Health, and this area is going to blossom. A healthy Labette Health makes a healthy community.”
During his tenure of more than five years, Mahoney led a $32 million expansion at Labette Health. Now nearing completion, the project resulted in new and renovated facilities, including the Rector Diabetes Education and Resource Center, which was dedicated last month, and the Center of Rehabilitation Excellence, which will celebrate its grand opening December 15.
“The show will go on,” Schibi said. “We have a beautiful facility here, with a talented and dedicated staff who will continue to provide excellent care for our patients.”
