Frederick Okie, M.D., Completes Ob/Gyn Board Certification Exam
PARSONS, Kan., Feb. 9, 2009 – Dr. Frederick Okie successfully completed American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology oral examinations in December.
For Dr. Okie, who joined Labette Health in 2007, completing his board examinations was the latest step on a path that led from his native Cameroon in Western Africa to a residency at Howard University in Washington, D.C., to a new home and medical practice in Parsons.
Dr. Okie graduated from the University Center for Health Sciences in Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde, and worked in a university hospital there for seven years before coming to the United States in 1997. After completing a four year obstetrics and gynecology residency in Washington, D.C., Dr. Okie said he was attracted to Parsons because of its friendly, comfortable lifestyle and the growth possibilities at Labette Health.
He said that board certification was a lengthy process that began with the completion of his four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology. After passing a rigorous written examination and beginning his practice, the next step was compiling a case list for preliminary review by board examiners to determine whether his experience was broad enough to qualify for the three-hour oral examination.
At Labette Health, Dr. Okie’s practice includes every aspect of prenatal and maternity care, as well as gynecological health for women of all ages. His specialties include minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery and he also treats incontinence and pelvic disorders.
Update: Beginning March 25, Dr. Okie began seeing patients at Erie Medical Clinic on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
