Dr. Beth Shelton Completes Board Certification

PARSONS, Kan., June 25, 2010 – Beth Shelton, M.D., a Labette Health physiatrist, has been certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Board certification is attained by completing a two-part examination, including a rigorous two-hour oral examination offered last May in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Shelton, a native of Pennsylvania, received her medical degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington and completed a four-year postdoctoral internship and residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation there before joining Labette Health in 2007.

At Labette Health, she serves as Medical Director of the hospital’s Webster Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit and maintains an outpatient practice in Building E, Suite 201.

Physiatrists, or physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, are physicians who treat nerve, muscle and bone injuries or illnesses that affect how patients move. They treat a wide range of problems from sore shoulders to spinal cord injuries with a goal of decreasing pain and enhancing functional performance without surgery.
